Cheng Shan-hsi was born in Shimatou located in Longxi county of Fujian province of China in 1932. In 1949, amid turbulent times, he moved to Taiwan where he enrolled in the Arts Teaching Department of Tainan Teachers’ College (currently known as National University of Tainan) by chance, and after graduating, he furthered his studies at the National Taiwan Normal University Art Faculty, where he came under the tutelage of master painters including Pu Hsin-yu, Huang Chun-pi, Lin Yu-shan and Liao Chi-chun. In 1969, Cheng presented his first solo art exhibition at the Taiwan Provincial Museum and henceforth began his illustrious career in Chinese painting. His iconic painting style is renowned for being firmly rooted in Chinese tradition, while introducing modernistic elements.

The Chief of Tang Yin Hall studied in the Department of Fine Arts, College of Arts of National Taiwan Normal University in the late 1970s under the tutelage of Cheng Shan-Hsi, and over the years, a close bond developed between them. After graduating, this protégé of Cheng’s started collecting his teacher’s works, amassing some two hundred pieces of ink paintings and calligraphy works over a span of forty years. The compilation and publishing of this catalogue that showcases the rich collection of Cheng’s artworks not only provides an invaluable source of insight to Cheng’s artistic breadth and depth, but also the protégé’s tribute to his mentor. 

This art catalogue is divided into four sections, namely “Heartfelt Hometown” (心乡) 、“Heartfelt Landscapes” (心景) 、“Heartfelt States of Mind”(心境) and “Heartfelt Beacon”(心灯). It attempts to outline the artist journey of Cheng by looking at the theme and artistic concept of his work. 

郑善禧1932年出生于中国福建省龙溪县的石码头，1949年时政局巨变中远赴台湾，因缘际会考入台南师范学校艺术师范科，毕业后再考入台北师大美术系，师从溥心畬、黄君璧、林玉山、廖继春等名师。1969年郑善禧在省立博物馆举行首度个展，从此开启辉煌的艺术生涯，艺术界誉为上承传统、下开现代画风的标志性大家。

唐音堂主人于上世纪七十年代末考入台湾师范大学艺术学院美术系，师从郑善禧多年，感情甚笃。毕业后开始收藏郑善禧作品，四十年来水墨、书法诸作积累达二百余幅，今特出版成册，为窥探其书画艺境提供索引，也为感怀师恩。

藏画集分为四辑：辑一“心乡”，辑二“心景”，辑三“心境”，辑四“心灯”，尝试从书画的内容与意境，探索郑善禧多年来的创作历程。辑一“心乡”共收书画作品48幅，展示郑善禧多年来采集民风，心怀乡土的创作。
